As evangelical Anglicans, we are formed and directed by the Word of God and enriched by our Anglican heritage. And because many of us have come from other Christian traditions, some have expressed a desire to claim our Anglican identity in a deeper way.

Therefore our confirmation course is offered, through catechism, to equip adults who have not as yet been confirmed with deeper knowledge and richer spiritual practices for growth in the Christian faith—especially as it is lived out in the Anglican tradition. This instruction is in preparation to receive, through confirmation, a renewed sense of mission and purpose in the Body of Christ and in the world.

The catechism prepares the candidate to be confirmed and involves study of the Anglican Catechism, the Nicene, Apostle’s and Athanasian Creeds, the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord’s Prayer and the nature and role of Scripture in the Christian’s life. An exploration of the sacraments (baptism and Eucharist) and sacramentals (bowing at the cross, crossing oneself, use of holy water and anointing oil etc.) of the Anglican faith is also undertaken.

Adult Confirmation Class is for those who are considering confirmation and/or those who would like to discover more about our Anglican tradition.  Some of the topics we will consider are: Anglican history, Book of Common Prayer and Liturgy, Sacraments and the sacramental life, Scripture and Creeds, Church Year and Lectionary and Church structure and polity. The class, led by MJ Young, will be 6 sessions with the time and frequency determined by those who enroll. A new confirmation class begins in January, 2015.   Contact if interested.

Prayer by the Bishop as he lays hands upon each confirmand:

Strengthen, O Lord, your servant with your Holy Spirit; empower him/her for your service; and sustain him/her all the days of his/her life. Amen
