The vision of Church of the Savior
is based on the words of Jesus as he proclaimed the two greatest commandments--
to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength
and our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:29-31).
We embrace as well Jesus’ intention that we experience
fullness of life (John 10:10) as we enjoy friendship with him
and with one another (John 15:10-14).

Because of God’s great love for us, we strive to love God completely, as individuals and as a church, and long for a deeper experience of His transforming love.  We aim to make our love manifest in every aspect of our common life and ministry.  We walk in the light of Scripture, God’s written Word, as our highest authority and only faithful guide on our journey into His love (Psalm 119:105; Hebrews 4:12).  We commit ourselves to worship, prayer and the other ancient disciplines of the Christian faith as the only sure path toward spiritual transformation (Jeremiah 6:16).  We worship in the liturgical tradition of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, which admonishes us faithfully to proclaim the Word (Acts 10:42; Titus 1:19) and to practice the sacraments of the Eucharist (Ephesians 6:18; Luke 22:19) and baptism (Mark 16:15-6; Romans 6:1-8; I Corinthians 12:13).  Our worship is contemplative yet celebratory in style as we seek to enter into His presence and glorify Him in ways that express the breadth and diversity of our experiences.

As friends of the Savior, we are committed to building a community that is growing, not only in love for God but also in love for one another, just as He loved us (1 John 4:11).  For we are members of the body of Christ (Romans 7:4; I Corinthians 10:16, 12:27), united together with Him in His suffering, death and resurrection.  Therefore, we are called to a common life of “humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-6).  We seek to cultivate a community that “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things,” together (I Corinthians 13:7).  We strive to empower one another to live the Good News in our families, neighborhoods and vocations and to support others who are sharing the Good News both locally and globally (Matthew 28:19-20).  We commit ourselves to recognize and to respond to those who are suffering and in need through giving, service, healing prayer and the promotion of social justice (Micah 6:8).

In the beginning, God created, called His creation good and afterward rested (Genesis 1-2).  So too we affirm the goodness of His world, the sanctity of human life and celebrate the divine rhythm of work and rest.  For “‘the earth and its fullness are the Lord’s’” (Psalm 24; I Corinthians 10:21-31) and Christ Himself came that we might “have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).  Because we love God, we receive with gratitude and celebration the life he gives us.  Because we want to love others as we love ourselves, we seek to promote and protect the fullness of life for others, as we do for ourselves.  Therefore, we celebrate our freedom in Him.  We seek to enjoy life to its fullest and to receive with joy every good gift that comes down to us from God (James 1:17). We find that Sabbath rest helps us taste the abundant life Jesus offers (Exodus 20:8; Mark 2:27).  We also seek to protect human life and conserve God’s creation (1 Timothy 6:17).

We desire that our loving God, loving others and loving life
be pursued with abandon, always recognizing that none of us has arrived
but rather are on a transformational journey.
We believe that wholehearted love for God and others produces a love for life that is contagious.
